hello friend ...Since you are a mechanical engineer, you are eligible to join merchant navy as engine cadet/junior engineer. Along with a bachelor degree in engineering, you will have to undergo a pre-sea training. The pre-sea training is conducted by MERI (Marine Engineering & Research Institute) Mumbai. The Duration of this course is 1 year. The advertisement for this course will be published in Employment News and other leading news papers in the month of November.
After successful completion of the pre-sea training, you can join Merchant Navy in the engineering department.

If you have already completed your B.Tech program in Mechanical Engineering, you will need to join a Pre-Sea course.The duration of the course is 1 years and is offered by Marine Engineering and Research Institute-Mumbai.After completion of the pre-sea course, you will be eligible to apply for the post of Junior Engineer in any of the merchant ships.For more information regarding the pre-sea course at Marine Engineering and Research Institute-Mumbai, contact

Career in Merchant Navy can be pursued either as an officer or a rating in mainly two specialized fields, i.e. Marine Engineering and Nautical (deck).
To become a seafarer, following streams of entries (Pre-Sea courses) are available to Indian citizens in the Government as well as in private training institutions (recognized and approved by Director General of Shipping, Ministry of Shipping)
As an Officer:
3 year degree course in Nautical Science for (10+2) students.
4 year degree course in Marine Engineering for (10+2) students.
2 year course for Diploma Holders.
1 year course for Graduate Mechanical Engineers.
3 month course for Deck Cadets for (10+2) students.
There are four Government Training Institutes providing Pre-Sea and Post-Sea training of international standard:
1. Training Ship Chanakya, Navi Mumbai.
2. Marine Engineering & Research Institute (MERI), Kolkata.
3. Marine Engineering & Research Institute (MERI), Mumbai.
4. Lal Bahadur Shastri College of advanced Maritime Studies and Research, Mumbai

Dear friend you can fill the Merchant Navy forms after doing your graduation or any type of degree from any recognized university .
For the test your age must be in between 18 to 24.
You should be unmarried.
After your degree there are some courses on the basis of Posts:
~1 Months Pre-sea course For General Purpose Rating.
~2 Months pre-sea course for Deck rating.
~3 Months pre-sea course for Engine rating.
~4 Months pre-sea course for Saloon Rating.
In addition, a candidate can join as utility hand or Petty Officers (Fitters) after completing 4 basic course i.e FPFF , EFA , PSSR , and PST .
There are four Government Training institutes providing Pre-sea and Post-sea Training of international standard:

Merchant Navy is a non combat fleet which is a programme of transporting cargo's,tankers and occasionally passengers through sea.
There are lots of job opportunities in merchant navy for mechanical engineers.
You can join as various posts in merchant navy department:-

>> But before joining any of the branch you need to do 1 year pre sea training course.
Eligibility criteria to join these courses:-
>> Candidate should have B.E. / B.Tech., in Mechanical Engineering or Naval Architecture with minimum 50% marks in final year.
The candidate should have obtained at least 50 % in English at 10th or 12th std, or degree course.
Age Limit - Maximum 28 years of age as on commencement date of the course.
Physical Standards - Medically fit as per the standards set by M. S. Medical Examination Rules, 2000
