If you qualify in the final round of IES,You will be placed as Assistant Executive engineers. You will be placed as per your branch of engineering. And as someone has said above about ONGC,Coal India etc,That is not through IES any of them.IES will lead you to Central govt jobs. You will be placed in Railways,Central Water boards,Military services,Army and Naval armaments,Ordinance factories,Central Power engineering,Wireless planning or Monitoring departments,Central telecommunication services.
All these are not applicable to all.You will be placed on the basis of your degree of Civil engineering,Mechanical,Electrical or Electronics engineering.Only these 4 branches are eligible to appear. You will get through to the top of central services through IES.This is the most prestigious and toughest exam for engineers in our country.
