keep in mind the following points
1. your cgpa should be above 7.5 to get thorough campus placements in core companies
2. if you have to get an internship abroad..or even here in IISC or IIT with stipend...your CGPA would be converted and measured on a 4 point scale....so a good project or an internship will require a 3/4 grade..which corresponds to 7.5 above on a 10 point scale..
yes you can apply for govt jobs..but again only if you write the gate..you should score above 50 in gate to qualify for the tech interview in psu's

But for public sector firms you have to give exams like IES or GATE. Almost all the govt. firms which are mentioned above and which are not consider GATE score and you can get into PSU's though IES.
The eligibility criteria for appearing in GATE exam is-
1) Age Limit for PSU Exam is 30 years.
2) At least 60 percent marks in graduation course.
3) A B.Tech degree in any stream from a recognized university.
There is some relaxation for reserve category candidates.
And that of IES are-
1) The age limit is 21 to 30 years. 3 is three years relaxation in age limit for OBC. SC/ST are entitled for 5 years relaxation in upper age limit.
2)A B.Tech degree.
3) Indian candidature.
