keep in mind the following points

    1. your cgpa should be above 7.5 to get thorough campus placements in core companies

    2. if you have to get an internship abroad..or even here in IISC or IIT with stipend...your CGPA would be converted and measured on a 4 point scale....so a good project or an internship will require a 3/4 grade..which corresponds to 7.5 above on a 10 point scale..

yes you can apply for govt jobs..but again only if you write the gate..you should score above 50 in gate to qualify for the tech interview in psu's

    all the best do well

This branch is one of those branches which has equal scope and opportunities in public as well as in private sector. Not only in India, but mechanical engineers are also well placed outside India. Now since you are in your 3rd so this is the right time for you to improve your percentage if it is lagging behind. See, the minimum percentage that should be is 60%. If you secure at least 60% in your b.tech overall then you will be eligible for both the private sector and all be eligible for the public exams and jobs.
Some of the major private sector companies which are top recruiters of mechanical engineers are-
    • FIAT
    • TATA Motors
    • Sundaram-Clayton Ltd
    • Mahindra & Mahindra
    • Royal Enfield Ltd
    • Addison & Co Ltd
    • Ashok Leyland Ltd, Ennore
    • Axles India Ltd
    • Hyundai Motors India Ltd
    • Tube Investments of India Ltd
    • Hindustan Motors Ltd
These are some of the big names, there are many more.

Not only in private sector but mechanical engineers also have scope in public sector companies like-
    ~BEL
    ~Ralways
    ~NTPC
    ~NHPC
    ~NALCO
    ~VEDANTA
    ~JINDAL
    ~BHEL
But for public sector firms you have to give exams like IES or GATE. Almost all the govt. firms which are mentioned above and which are not consider GATE score and you can get into PSU's though IES.

The eligibility criteria for appearing in GATE exam is-
    1) Age Limit for PSU Exam is 30 years.
    2) At least 60 percent marks in graduation course.
    3) A B.Tech degree in any stream from a recognized university.
There is some relaxation for reserve category candidates.

    And that of IES are-
    1) The age limit is 21 to 30 years. 3 is three years relaxation in age limit for OBC. SC/ST are entitled for 5 years relaxation in upper age limit.
    2)A B.Tech degree.
    3) Indian candidature.
