Re: Should I go for IAS or IES? Procedure for it?

    Dear friend,
IAS or IES depends on your intrest and Both are senior employee of Govt. but depends upon their sector whereas IAS dealt with PM , CM , as Secretariat while IES is at the same level but in technical cadre . Although people used to go for IAS generally as they were supposed to have more power than IES because of their routine proceedings with PM , CM and other senior Diplomats .
    for IES,
IES exam is conducted once every year by UPSC. Examination notifications are published in major newspaper and employment news in January / February and exam is conducted in June/ July every year.AGE limit-21 to 30.written exam and personal interview will be conducted..
    for IAS,
it is conducted by UPSC.exam is divided into three parts :- Pre Exam ,after that Main Exam ,and then Interview.

Re: Should I go for IAS or IES? Procedure for it?

Hi!! You have not mentioned your educational qualification ,both IAS (Indian Administrative Services) & IES (Indian Engineering Services) are good. IAS is the administrative portion of the Indian Govt, you can get job like - Secretary to PM, CM, Aviation, Revenue etc where as the IES is the Technical Services portion of the Indian Govt. IAS in the non technical branch of the Union of the Government of India and IES is the Technical branch of the Union of Government of India. IES officers are generally employed in Indian Railway Engineering service, Military Engineering Service, Central Engineering Service.Eligibilty is Graduation & Your age must in between 21 to 30 yrs. IAS & IES exam is conducted By UPSC Government of India once in a year.....so chose as per your interest because ultimately you need to perform well in your job and that not possible if you don't have interest in your field...All the best!!

it depends on the fact that whether ur an engineer or not.
if ur an engg. student or engineer then its better to go for ies.coz then its a bit unique,as everybody can try for ias but only engineers can try for ies.
its just my opinion.hope i cud help.

    dear,
if you are a student of engineering field then you should opt for ies.if you are a student of other field then you must go for ias.for engineering students ies is best because in written exam of ies there is one general knowledge paper and one optional paper of your choice i.e you can opt your branch section from which you have done your engineering .e.x-mechanical,civil,electrical ,etc.if you are a engineering student then you will find that the preparation job easy.but going for ias makes the preparation work hard.but if you are very much confident for ias then go for ias.

Re: Should I go for IAS or IES? Procedure for it?

It is a tough choice to make. Both IAS and IES are good field to go in.
Indian Engineering Services (IES) are the Technical Services that meet the technical and managerial functions of the Government of India.
The Indian Administrative Service (IAS) is the administrative civil service of the Government of India. An IAS Officer plays a major role in managing the bureaucracy of both the Union Government and the State governments.

As the name only suggests , if you are a technical graduate i.e an engineer of Electrical, civil, mechanical and Electronics branch then go for IES.
You will be posted at the post of a Assistant Engineer/Sub-Division Officer in government organizations like-
    Indian Railway Stores Service
    Central Engineering Service
Central Electrical and Mechanical Engineering Service
    Indian Naval Armament Service
    Indian Ordnance Factories Service
    Central Water Engineering service

If you belong to commerce field then go for IAS.

Both the exams are conducted by Central Government.
Indian Engineering Services is good depending upon the priorities you have
The IES are the Technical services that meet the technical and managerial functions of government of India.
The IES exam is conducted by UPSC for every year in the month of May or June across India. And Indian Administrative Service exam is prestigious and powerful; all the bureaucrats find it as a viable option. According to my view, IAS is far better than IES.
    Best of luck!!!

Re: Should I go for IAS or IES? Procedure for it?

Post wise and payment wise, both are same but when it comes to power,IAS is way more higher than IES officer. There are several posts through Civil services and not just only IAS.Qualifying for Civil services will get you posts of Administrative officer,Police services,Foreign services,Revenue services etc.The exam of IES is relatively easier than IAS.But just in relative terms.Main reason behind this is Civil services has lots of subjects to prepare and lots of subjects to appear. You may be very good at your subjects but someone might be better in their subject as well.So inspite of being topper in your difficult subject, you may lose. But IES is on equal terms as all have to qualify in the same subjects for the same posts in each branch.
You need to decide which one you would like to go for.All depends on you whether to go for IAS or IES.Check the website of UPSC as the exam notification will come out for both in February.

Dear friend, For IES you must have engineering background in either of civil, electrical, mechanical or electronics. After clearing IES you will get technical jobs in central govt. where after clearing IAS you will get administrative jobs. Both are good. It is upto you which background is strong for you. Since these exam are one of the toughest exam conducted by UPSC. First you go through their syllabus and u only can decide which one u can crack.

see both option are from the government side but one is for the engineering side (IES) and other is from administrative side(IAS) . in the IES ie Indian engineering services you would be designated as an engineer in any one of the sectors like Railways, and in the IAS ie Indian administrative services you will be placed in the districts or blocks of any state where you have to manage the workings of all the other division. and you have to take care of your block development. both has its own value and are very good. but to qualify for this you have to pass the UPSC exam, for which you have to work a lot

Re: Should I go for IAS or IES? Procedure for it?

Dear Friend, You have not mentioned your educational qualification .For both, IAS & IES entrance exams, the minimum eligibility criteria is Graduation degree. In order to be eligible for IAS Exam, graduation with any of the stream is acceptable. But in order to be eligible for IES Exam, you should have completed Graduation in Engineering. You can appear for IAS(Civil Service Exams) to become an IAS officer and you can appear in the IES Exam for Technical Service. You need to be a B.Tech degree holder in any of the following streams :-
    Electrical Engineering
    Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering
    Civil Engineering
    Mechanical Engineering

The level of preparation for both the exam you are going to have prior to appearing of these entrance exams and how well you attempt the exam will only influence in successful cracking of these entrance exams. Choose yourself of which exam you want to crack based on your career goal and make your preparation for the exam accordingly.Don't take the decision that you can prepare for both the entrance exams. This will be too risky decision since being placed in civil services by cracking civil services exam is too difficult. IAS examination has three stages-
    1.CSAT
    2.MAINS
    3.INTERVIEW.

In order to join the IAS or IES..there is no constraint on the 10th or 12th percentage for appearing in the exams..You just need to complete your graduation from a recognized college. For appearing in the both the exams..the age limit for general candidates is 21-30 years, for OBC its 21-33 years and for SC/ST it is 21-35 years.
