The vacancies for civil engineers is the most among the 4 branches in IES.You should start preparing from now so that you have a good chance while appearing in final year for IES.The exam will have questions from whole syllabus for 4years.You can download questions of previous years from the website of UPSC or better join some correspondence coaching class..
You will have questions from Paper I and PaperII.Paper I will have questions from Structural,RCC,Concrete technology,Building Material,Strength of materials. In Paper II you will have questions from Hydraulics,Irrigation,Channel flow,Geotechnical engineering,Surveying,Environmental.
You need to have a very very good command over basic concept as the questions are completely from basic fundamentals and not much of twist can be seen. But the stakes are very high and clearing the cutoff becomes tough as the exam is of 1000marks and also have a subjective portion in both the papers.
On the 1st day you will have paper of general ability test wich comprises of general questions.
2nd day,you will have objective paper I and paper II
3rd day you will have subjective paper I and paper II.
You need to qualify in the earlier exams to have your paper checked for the next exam. After overall score, you will be called for Interview of 200marks if you cross the cutoff. After total qualification, you will have your service in the most reputed departments of Indian Government..
