The vacancies for civil engineers is the most among the 4 branches in IES.You should start preparing from now so that you have a good chance while appearing in final year for IES.The exam will have questions from whole syllabus for 4years.You can download questions of previous years from the website of UPSC or better join some correspondence coaching class..
You will have questions from Paper I and PaperII.Paper I will have questions from Structural,RCC,Concrete technology,Building Material,Strength of materials.In Paper II you will have questions from Hydraulics,Irrigation,Channel flow,Geotechnical engineering,Surveying,Environmental.
You need to have a very very good command over basic concept as the questions are completely from basic fundamentals and not much of twist can be seen.But the stakes are very high and clearing the cutoff becomes tough as the exam is of 1000marks and also have a subjective portion in both the papers.
On the 1st day you will have paper of general ability test wich comprises of general questions.
2nd day,you will have objective paper I and paper II
3rd day you will have subjective paper I and paper II.
You need to qualify in the earlier exams to have your paper checked for the next exam.After overall score,you will be called for Interview of 200marks if you cross the cutoff.After total qualification,you will have your service in the most reputed departments of Indian Government..
The IES exam is conducted by UPSC .
The IES exam of this years has already been conducted.It was held on 10th of June.

the eligibility for this exam is given below-
Nationality-candidate must be a citizen of India or a subject of Nepal or a subject of Bhutan or a Tibetan refugee.
Age Limit-candidate must be between 21 to 30 Years.
Education Qualification-Candidate should have an engineering degree from a recognized university under AICTE.
There is no minimum percentage needed so one can apply with any score.
Various age relaxation available for this exam-
5 years for SC/ST candidates
3 years for OBC candidates
5 years for defence service personals
10 years for physically handicapped candidates

Section A - Multiple choice questions(objective)
Section B - Essay writing
The exam syllabus is given below-

Dear Friend, IES Stands for Indian Economic Service Examination is conducted by the UPSC once in a year. The student who pass engineering in any one of the following branch are eligible for I.E.S exam:-
1.Civil Engineering
2.Electrical Engineering
3.Mechanical engineering.
4.Electronics and Communication Engineering.
or equivalent qualification from a recognized University or deemed University.
You will be eligible when you are appearing in the final year of degree course to apply for Engineering Service Examination. Your age should not less than 21 years and not more than 30 years as on 1st august of the year of examination and Upper age limits for SC/ST/OBC categories and other reserved categories.
