Electrical engineer
Electronics and communication engineer
Mechanical engineer

Dear Friend, IES stands for Indian Engineering Service and this exam is conducted by UPSC(Union Public Service Commission) and this exam is conducted every year for candidates to join in Indian Engineering Organizations.
Sufficient time for preparation for IES Exam is totally depend on you but I always suggest for early preparation as these entrance test is considered the toughest exam because more number of candidate will apply and all are from engineering background. Eligibility criteria for this exam is a degree in B.E/B.Tech in the following departments:
No matter which discipline of engineering you have graduated with, you will have to write the Engineering Service Examination in any of the four core areas of engineering as mentioned above.
- Civil Engineering,
- Mechanical Engineering,
- Electrical Engineering and
- Electronics & Tele Communication Engineering.
Apart from being a graduate in Engineering, you must be within the age limit of 21-30 years to be considered eligible for the Engineering Service Examination. It is advised to you that you shouldn't think for IES because you are not eligible for this exam as this is conducted only on FOUR Engineering Stream:
MECHANICAL
ELECTRONICS & COMMUNICATION
CIVIL
ELECTRICAL
& you are from IT Engineering.
But I have some words for you that you should prepare for these exams:
1.GATE Exam:
Various reputed govt. organisation like IOCL, NTPC, BHEL, BEL, GAIL etc are recruiting through valid GATE score.
Try to solve the question with the help of your text books for technical study & makes a number of evaluation.
You must practice the book for the GATE exams by G.K. Publishers.
For Aptitude read Quantitative & Reasoning by R. S. Aggarwal & also Puzzle by Sakuntala Devi.
You can take admission in good coaching institute like GATE ACADEMY, TARGET, GATEFORUM etc for both GATE as well as IES. They will provide you good study material
& if you can follow their guide, then you can crack the exams.
If you can Practice well for your subjects with some good study material, then you can easily obtain a good rank in this exam.
2.CSIR-NET Exam:
This is also a good option for you to manage the job of Lecturer in the field of IT in various engineering institute & JRF(Junior Research Fellow) in various reputed institute/organisation.

3.RRB Exam:
Wide Range of Recruitment is done throughout the all regional areas of RRB through this exam. You can appear for this exam in the post of Senior Section Engineer in category of IT. In this year the notification for RRB Exam is yet not published. But be alert for that. You can find the update in the site www.railwayrecruitment.co.in
