there is not any specified score in GATE to apply for psu jobs,however you should apply for psu jobs if you have appeared in gate 2012.psu jobs will be offered on the basis of gate 2012.if you have got rank under one thousand then you can expact for call letter for interview.there are 500-600 seats in iits,400 to 500 seats in nits.so approximately 1000 student from each branch will join m.tech.,hence you may be called for interview upto rank 1000 to 1500.here is the list of companies who are giving jobs on the basis of gate 2012

After the GATE score with more than 80 percentile you have to be call for the interview in respective companies in which you have apply for the interview..

For the interview call from the companies you need to apply for these companies when these companies issues the job recruitment through the GATE entrance exam...

Eligibility for the job in IOCL:

>> you should be passed the bachelor degree in engineering with atleast 65% marks from any recognized university.

GATE Qualifying Score
The Qualifying Score is the minimum mark that needs to be secured to become eligible for availing assistantships provided by MHRD, GOI. The qualifying score for general category in each paper is (a + s) or 25
{a = average of marks of all candidates who appeared in the paper mentioned on this scorecard in GATE 2010, with all marks less than zero, converted to zero.
s = standard deviation of marks of all candidates who appeared in the paper mentioned on this scorecard in GATE 2010, with all marks less than zero, converted to zero

,whichever is higher, where a and s are the average and standard deviation of marks of all candidates in a particular paper, with all marks less than zero, converted to zero. The qualifying scores for SC/ST/PD/OBC categories would be 2/3, 2/3, 2/3 and 9/10, respectively, of the general category qualifying score.

So try to secure the cut off mark so that you are eligible for the Govt. Scholarships. You try to answer around at least 50-60% if not more so that you will get the qualifying mark. DO not BLUFF because some questions carry 2/3 negative. It is a loss.

You must know that GATE refers to Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering. This test helps for the admission in M.tech and a job in Public sector undertaking. There is no minimum marks on the basis of the which you can interview call. A cut off list is generated and if your marks comes under it, then only you can apply for the job. The cut off marks changes as per performance of the students. You must try to get the Gate marks of 90 percentile.

Almost all the companies conduct their own tests for the recruitment of candidates.

PSUs have now started shortlisting the candidates though the common exam that is GATE.

Hello Friend,

To apply for PSU's you must have a minimum of 75% and above of GATE score which means your rank should be 1000 or below.
For example the BHEL is recruiting the students through GATE score with 1:3 ratio
Which means it is giving 75% importance to GATE score and 25% importance to academics score.
If you have qualified in GATE score with 75% then you can go directly for Interview without any written test.
the validity of GATE score is Two years, in these two years you can apply for a job or you can go to M.Tech.
