As you are in 2nd year, just focus on your studies..Do not waste your time as people tend to lose their vital period of time and the start bothering about career just months before passing out.You have lot of time to study and also to enhance your other skills like communication or other courses etc.Companies recruits candidates with good percentage with strong concepts over their subjects and most importantly, good communication and expressive skills.Your extra short term courses can also boost your chances and would help you..For the current time, just focus and study and maintain your marks above distinction.
Dear Friend, I agree with you that at present scenario cut throat competition is there in job market so you should be more focus and determined and try to achieve at least 65% without backlogs in your B.Tech, whether you are trying for job OFF Campus or ON Campus you should go through the following rounds :-
1) Written Test.
2) Technical Interview.
3) Management and HR Interview.
So your subject and technical knowledge should be strong and you should work on your soft skills like communication skill, confidence, Team skill and EQ etc for facing Interview. You can also register your name to good placement service and job portal after B.Tech. Job portals like www.naukri.com, www.timesjob.com,www.shine.com,www.freshworld.com, www.monster.com etc.
There are three ways to get into reputed companies: 1. Through Campus placement , 2. Through Referral entry, 3. Through Walk in.
But dear friend, since you now in 2nd year only so what your duty is to improve your knowledge, work on communication skill rather than thinking much about jobs. When the time comes if you have knowledge with good marks you will get jobs easily. So for the time being concentrate on the study only.
To get a job in a reputed company after your B.tech . 1)maintain good "percentage" in B.tech. 2)improve your "communication skills" by ending of your B.tech. 3)Have the strong knowledge in your "Core subjects" . 4)Do the "project" correctly which is important for B.tech students.

hello friend,
the first chance that a student gets to get a job is through the CAMPUS PLACEMENT, done in the college.
if you miss that opportunity, then either try to grab an internship in a good company or alternatively you need to do any specialization courses in your field.
for any fresher to get a job, to qualify in written test is mandatory for which you need to be good grip on aptitude and reasoning. For further rounds develop good communication skills.
if you are interested in doing govt. jobs, you should have good knowledge in your core field.
thank you
