First of all the first thing that you should know is that CID does not have any direct recruitment. The officers that are appointed in CID are through promotions or from other departments of CBI. So, you have to be selected in CBI and then after some time if you are lucky you could be a part of the CID.

Now about the recruitment procedure of CBI because the way to CID goes through CBI only. See, CBI conducts recruitment test every year for the post of Sun-Inspector.

The eligibility criteria for it are-
    • Age limit also plays its role which is 20-25 years. There is some relaxation to SC/ST/OBC candidates.
    • A graduation degree from any recognized university
The notification of the exam is generally in the leading newspapers around October. So, be alert at that time. and keep note of tentative dates.

The rest of the posts are filled by the exam of IAS/IPS and State public service commission exams. Depending upon your choice and vacancy present you may be posted to Intelligence Bureau (IB) or Research and Analysis Wing (RAW). So, its your choice either you can give the exam for officer's post or for the sub-inspector.
The exam is conducted by UPSC and its pattern is
    1. Preliminary exam
    2. MAains
    3. Personal interview
