It is one of the specialized branch of electrical engineering because of which students who complete their b.tech with this branch are more likely to get a job in industries. The demand for such engineers is more in public sector. In private sector also opportunities are there but since power generation and implementation sector is mainly under government so you have a very bright scope of getting a govt. job.

In any firm that you will be working, your main work will include designing, developing, installing, managing and/or maintaining equipment which is used to monitor and control engineering systems, machinery and processes. Some more duties of such an engineer are given as follows:

~Designing and developing new control systems

    ~Maintaining and modifying existing systems
    ~Managing operations
~Working collaboratively with design engineers, operation engineers, purchasers and other internal staff
~Contacting clients, suppliers, contractors and relevant authorities
~Project management within cost and time constrained environments
    ~Troubleshooting and problem-solving
~Understanding and ensuring compliance with the health and safety regulations and quality standards
    ~Providing advice and consultancy support
    ~Purchasing equipment
    ~Writing computer software
    ~Developing new business proposals
    ~Domain expert in IT industries.

So you can see the scope is wide, you just have to perform as per the expectations of the firm.

Engineers like you are mainly required by the Heavy industries such as Thermal Power Stations, Steel Plants, Refineries, and Cement and Fertilizer Plants BOTH IN Govt. and private sectors like N.F.L., BHEL, Honeywell, Samsung, IOCL, and SAIL
