Re: Which books are best for preparing for IES exams? When can i give this exam?

Your answers are in the same order as you have asked:
1.Books from Made Easy publications for your branch for Engineering services exam will be best. But you have to complete your own course books before going for practice material or sample papers etc. G.K. Publications books are also good but they have many printing mistakes and you may get confused if you are directly using those books before completing your own syllabus.
2.The exam is conducted every year during the last week of June. The forms are filled around february or march. You can check the website of UPSC to know about the future dates or atleast the expected dates. As you are just in 2nd year, there is enough time left. You need to be atleast in final year to appear for the exam.Check the UPSC website around January in the examination calendar to know about the date of registration of that particular year.

3.Every central govt organizations conducts their own exams for the higher posts. But through IES,you will get the highest possible post fopr a fresher in any central dept.Whether it is Railways or in Wireless dept(as you are ECE graduate) etc.If you apply for exam in Railways or SSC,you will get lower post and different post that what you will get through IES and your promotions to the subsequent higher posts will also be late that IES. You are just in 2nd year so you may find it confusing how a person with same degree gets different post in the same organization, but you will understand it gradually.Concentrate on your studies for IES.Wish you all the best and complet your syllabus first before going for coaching or practice material.
