Yeah you could definitely switch to IT field with no any restrictions. But for that you should have the some skill of computer language so that on the basis of which the company would able to recruit in the IT field. Minimum you should know C,C++, Java etc language to get good jobs in the IT field.

you can go in any sector you want ...telecom sector is also at its boom as every day new technologies are being implemented....
but one thing you should keep in mind that IT companies will allow you to grow more ...
these are the name of few companies you can have a look at THEM and they have minimum percentage criteria as 60% you wont be even having problem later :..

    TCS
    WIPRO
    INFOSYS
    HCL
    IMPETUS ..

YOU CAN TRY FOR GIVING THE FOLLOWING TEST
    elitmus
    myamcat

many of the big IT companies take the student directly for the interview on the basis of the score on these above mentioned tests ...

I hope these helps you ..

    BEST OF LUCK ..!

you should go for the IT field because to get into the IT field you just need to have command on some computer language. But in case of Telecom field such conditions are not valid.

Based on your marks you can get a job in It sector but it is always good to be in your core sector as it will be helpful in the long run.You can use your core knowledge to the maximum which will satisfy none other than yourself the most.More importantly you will have less difficulty in understanding the working in your telecom sector than IT sector. As you are a fresher you will be trained in any company you go.and you need some of the programming languages to be in IT field such as c or c++.But better option would be to stick to your field.Good luck...

Re: After passing B.Tech ECE should I go towards IT or Telecom sector?

    Hi Sravan,

The first and foremost thing is that the decision is totally yours, you must choose the field in which you fell comfortable and has an inclination towards.
But you must keep these points in mind while selecting your field:
    1. There are plenty of jobs in IT sector which is not the case with Telecom.
    2. You can grow quite well in IT esp. in the initial phase, but in Telecom sector you must have some hands on experience. Though for a long perspective both the fields are quite good.
    3. For IT, you must be having good knowledge of any comp. language like C,C++,.NET,Java,PHP for which you can a join some course from a institute.

But as you have done your graduation in ECE I would say you should give a try for Telecom, esp. if you are having some future goals and plans in this sector.

    My opinion is that you
    should choose power
    sector after B.Tech in
    electronics and
    communication with 4
    months industrial
    experience as in power
    sector starting salary is
    good. if you will get
    selected company like
    NTPC then your salary
    will be ctc 8.5 lakh.
    but in telecom sector
    salary is not good and
    profilr is also not good

You can go to IT as well as Telecom sector. To go to IT u should know C++,java and other programming subjects and you have chances of shining in IT sector. So I would suggest to go for Telecom sector.Even though initially its tough and payment is less, your future will bee secured if you go to Telecom sector.

This is totally up to you to decide whether you want to go for a job in the IT sector or Telecom.....
If you have a good experience in robotics and VLSI designing, then you can go in the telecom sector.......
My advice to you would be sit down decide what is your preferred line of work.
I ve seen many students of did B.TECH in Mechanical and are working in TCS.
As of now, the opportunities available in the IT sector are more than that in the telecom sector.
If your current aim is to get into the industry and gain some experience and your not so particular about the IT or the telecom, then i would suggest
you gor for the IT sector.
But then again its ur taste and your decision

Both IT as well as telecom sector are growing with an enormous rate.....keeping future prospective in mind it would better for you to go in Telecom sector.....There is a lot of opportunity in future.....try for going in Public sector companies for a relaxed and high income job along with job security.....appear for GATE to get into PSU without giving the written test....your GATE percentile should be more than 92% to get a job in PSU....
some of the telecom sector companies you can join are BSNL,MTNL,RELIANCE,AIRTEL,VODAFONE,TATA DOCOMO,AIRCEL etc....
BSNL will be the best option for your as it is a government sector company.....

    HI
since ur an e.c.e engineer, switching ti IT is a very bad option.coz c.s/i.t engg is just opposite to e.c engg.
its said that the courses that are the best for an e.c.e engineer are the worst option for an i.t/c.s engineer and vice- versa
going for telcom sector is the best option.
even u can observe the rate at which telcom companies nowadays are growing.
there are a no. of telcom companies which offer great job oppurtunities like bsnl, mtnl, mts, airtel, vodafone, reliance etc.

if u go ahead with switching ur stream to i.t ur 4yrs of studying e.c. engg will go futile.

    ALL THE BEST!

Definitely you should go to telecom sector. There is no meaning wasting your 4 years of study by going into IT sector. You will gain nearly nothing from IT sector. You can learn a lot and can use your skills in your core companies. After few years of service in IT companies you can not come back in your field. Moreover, these core companies of civil, mechanical, electrical, electronics remain much stable than for IT sectors.

Dear friend you should opt for telecom as it is related to your stream but in IT you will have to learn programming language. There is already very rush in software industry in India. Career growth is also not as it seems from outside world real story is different once you enter into it.

    Hi Sravan,
It depends on individual interests, So it must be yourself who must decide which is best suited for you... However as you have done ECE its much better if you opt for telecom sector, you can have opportunities in Govt Sector as well as you have an aggregate which will make you eligible for most of the exams... Make sure you appear for GATE in case you wish to work in the govt. Sector... Organisations like BSNL, MTNL etc are something which you can look upto in telecom sector, there are plenty of other organisations too in which an ECE graduate can apply but as you are specifically interested in telecom then the former organisations are good... There are good amount of firms in private sector as well in telecom... Coming to IT field, with your aggregate you can apply for firms like CSC, TCS, Satyam etc... In case you are not good at your technical subject(ECE) and need a change of field and you thing software is something which you can do well then don't give a second though and straight away start working towards the IT sector to get an entry... If you think about growth, well it depends on an individual again, both IT and Telecom are making tremendous improvements and growth is ecstatic... If your are good at your core go for telecom, if you feel software is your forte then go for IT sector, both are good and have good scope... Its just how you apply yourself and arise from the rest of others...

    All the best

The students with Non Medical and Bio as optional subjects have many options to choose from regarding their further studies. There are diploma courses, degree courses and many more professional courses. Some are BE. Biotechnology, B.Tech Biotechnology, B.Tech, B.Tech Bioinformatics, B.Sc Biotechnology, Microbiology, Genetics, Radio Therapy, Nanotechnology, Genetic Engineering etc. Other than these options, subsequent to the completion of Bachelor degree a student can choose to appear for Indian Civil Services, PSC, and UPSC.
Career in defense is also another option. Students who are interested in media and journalism can opt that field. Management is another option where the student can do BBA and then go the MBA. LLB is another stream which can be opted or else students can do specialization in accounting by doing CA or CS.

Re: After passing B.Tech ECE should I go towards IT or Telecom sector?

GENERALLY , THERE ARE MANY CORE COMPANIES FOR YOU .
IF YOU HAVE MORETHAN 60 % , THEN YOU ARE ELIGIBLE FOR MANY COMPANIES LIKE

    ISRO
    DRDO
    IOCL
    BHEL
    BSNL
    ONGC
    SAIL
    GAIL
    MTNL
    NTPC
    TRANSCO
    ZENCO , etc..

FOR THESE COMPANIES , IT IS BETTER TO GO WITH A GOOD GATE SCORE.
THE PAYSCALE WILLBE 21,000 TO 33,000 PERMONTH IN THESE COMPANIES .

YOU CAN ALSO LOOK FORWARD TO IT COMPANIES LIKE

    TCS
    ACCENTURE
    IBM
    WIPRO
    CTS
    ZENSAR
    POLARIS
    CONVERGYS
    U H C
    DELLL , etc...

THE PAYSCALE FOR A FRESHER WILLBE 20,000 TO 30, 000 IN THESE COMPANIES.

BUT , IF YOU CONSIDER FUTURE PACKAGES IN BOTH SECTORS , THEN NO DOUBT , IT PACKAGE WILL BE HIGHER THAN CORE SIDE JOB PACKAGE .
SO , YOU ONLY HAVE TO DECIDE TO WHICH WAY YOU SHOULD GO . I WILL SAY , IT IS BETTER TO GO FOR IT SOFTWARE SECTOR

Re: After passing B.Tech ECE should I go towards IT or Telecom sector?

See according to my knowledge one should opt that sector in terms of his carrier to which he belong, in other words one should stick to his own background and stream and shouldn't change his working field. This is because switching from your fortey to other destroyes all your skills of your field and in the sector which you switched to will consider you as a new comer and will not recognise your talent which you had in your sector. So according to me you should stick to the Electronics side as you completed your B.TECH in it. The list of Electronics companies are NOKIA, SIMENS, CLASSIC, INTEL, ALCATEL , BEETEL, BELKIN, SAMSUNG, LG, HUEWAI etc. the list of companies of telecom side are RELIANCE COMMUNICATIONS, BSNL, MTNL, AIRTEL, UNINOR, VSNL etc

Re: After passing B.Tech ECE should I go towards IT or Telecom sector?

    hi

    jobs after B.Tech ECE
Getting a Government Job is not an easy thing and it is possible only when you have thorough preparation for towards respective written exams.

You did not mention the category to which you belong. But for many of the Government Jobs, there is reservation for the candidates of SC/ST category. They are also having relaxation in
-percentage of marks required to be eligible for the entrance exam
-age criteria that is required to be eligible for the written exam
-even in cut off marks also.

If you are a candidate of SC/ST category, you can availa above benefits. If you are a candidate of General category, you should need to have extra preparation as you will not be given any relaxation in percentage of marks and in age criteria too.

First, I suggest you to decide upon the kind of Government Job which you are interested and the industry in which you want to start your career.

If you are interested in Government Job Opportunities in the core companies for ECE stream, then surf the official websites of those companies and know the available openings. If there are any openings which best suit your profile, you can apply for the same.

In contrast to this, you may also appear for various competitive exams like
    -CDS Exam
-to join Milliatry, Navy and Air Force
    -Bank PO Exams
-to join as Assistant Manager in various banks
    -Railway jobs
-to join in various job designations based on your stream
    -Civil services
-to join various civil services like IAS, IPS, IRS etc.

For updated information on CDS Exam and civil services exam, you can visit
    http://www.upsc.gov.in/

For updated information on various bank exams, you can visit

    good luck
